Global technology company expands in Winsford

Date added: 07/06/2016

A HIGH tech company which supplies watertight, fire and blast-proof doors for the Royal Navy’s fleet has opened a new manufacturing base in Winsford.

Marine Systems Technology, a PaR Systems company, which is based on Road Three of Winsford’s Industrial Estate, officially opened its new facility on May 25, in the presence of Cheshire’s Lord-Lieutenant David Briggs MBE, who is the Queen’s representative in the county.

Daren Pietsch, President of PaR’s Marine Division and Director of Marine Systems Technology, and Mark Wrightsman, CEO of PaR Systems worldwide, hosted the event which was attended by employees, customers and representatives from the local community.

As part of the ceremony David Briggs cut a ribbon on one of the unique fireproof and blast-proof ship doors that are used in aircraft carriers, navy frigates and on some of the world’s biggest cruise liners.

Mr Briggs said it was poignant to be opening the facility as the country prepared to mark the 100thanniversary of the Battle of Jutland when over 8,000 personnel died and 25 naval ships were lost.

He said: "How different things may have been if Marine Systems Technology had existed then. This highlights just how important the work of this company is. What the men and women do here may well in the future make the difference between life and death to the British Navy.”

Marine Systems Technology’s new facility joins a rapidly increasing number of scientific businesses across Cheshire.

The company has come a long way since developing a unique, high performance material which can be used for door systems on ships.

Mark Wrightsman CEO of PaR Systems added: "This represents a significant investment for our company and today is an opportunity to celebrate the hard work of our employees and their families, as well as recognising our partnership with BAE, the MoD and the Royal Navy.”

During the event Daren Pietsch, Director of Marine Systems Technology, also welcomed guests from Spain and the Netherlands and said: "We know that people’s lives are at stake and this is what drives our team to be so committed. We are very excited about the programme of work ahead and its importance to the country, and we will do everything we can to give our dedication and support.”

Clr Brian Clarke, Cheshire West and Chester’s cabinet member for economic development and infrastructure, added: "We are extremely proud that PaR Systems has chosen to invest in Winsford. The company is not only at the cutting edge of technology, but also holds true to its values of quality, safety and integrity. We wish them all the best at their new facility.”
