Construction firm Pochin's has been awarded a £5.4m scheme to redevelop the former 115,000 sq ft Carcraft hypermarket in Liverpool for discount retailer TJ Morris, which trades as Home Bargains.
The Middlewich-headquartered company has been brought in to convert the site, directly to the east of TJ Morris' existing Home Bargains headquarters at Axis Business Park, for commercial use. The project involves the building of a new training centre and two bulky goods retail units, while the existing training centre will also be converted into offices.
The scheme comes on the back of collaboration between Pochin's, Liverpool City Council and AJA Architects.
Joe Morris, operations director of TJ Morris, said: "The proximity of the former Carcraft site to our headquarters makes it a prime location to significantly expand our presence and enhance our facilities for staff training and retail purposes.
"Given the quality of our existing relationship, and their knowledge of the site, Pochin's were the obvious partner for us. We're looking forward to seeing the development up and running in the near future."
Pochin's chief executive Jim Nicholson said: "We are extremely pleased to be working with TJ Morris again on this new development that will no doubt play a vital part in the continued growth of Home Bargains.
"Pochin's involvement demonstrates our continued commitment to working with some of the region's most reputable businesses and our desire to continue building good relationships with the people we work with."
The development is due for completion in April 2017.
