Amec Foster Wheeler secures £4m nuclear waste framework contracts

Date added: 24/08/2017

Engineering giant Amec Foster Wheeler has secured two framework contracts worth a combined £4m from the firm that manages the UK’s lower level radioactive waste.

The deals, signed with Cumbria-based LLW Repository Ltd (LLWR), will see Amec Foster Wheeler provide environmental safety case (ESC) services and waste characterisation and assurance support (WCASS).

LLWR is the operator of the UK’s Low Level Waste Repository in West Cumbria, which it runs on behalf of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.

The firm also oversees the management of lower activity waste throughout the country.

Under the ESC framework, Amec Foster Wheeler will be the sole supplier of hydrogeological and geological support, and one of four providing general technical support.

The contract will generate an estimated £2m in revenue during the next four years.
