Cheshire and Warrington LEP calls for the region’s business talent to join its Board

Date added: 17/01/2017

The organisation responsible for setting the strategic direction for the Cheshire and Warrington economy and championing the region’s issues with government, is calling for the best of the region’s business community to apply to join its Board and contribute to the economic growth of the local economy, as it begins a recruitment drive for a Chair and Board Members.

Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) is recruiting for eight positions including the Chair, as a number of members’ terms are nearing completion.

The LEP Board is a partnership between the private sector and local authorities, and is predominately private sector led. It oversees and governs the LEP’s investment programme of around £1/3 billion, and its central role in delivering the region’s ambitions to become a £50 billion economy by 2040, including 139,000 new homes and 127,000 new jobs.

Since the LEP’s establishment in 2011, the Board has overseen significant growth of the Cheshire and Warrington economy, including the rise of the area’s position in the country’s economic league table to the second highest level of income per head in England outside of London. It has also played an integral role in the development of significant investment opportunities for the region including the growth of the Cheshire Science Corridor and launch of the Enterprise Zone, and the Northern Gateway Development Zone to capitalise on the investment opportunities of HS2.

Philip Cox, Chief Executive of Cheshire and Warrington LEP, said: "The role, work and influence of the LEP has grown significantly over the last six years. This is testament to the strength of our private and public sector partnership and our reputation for delivery, having secured major government investment for vital projects for the area through initiatives such as the Local Growth Fund.

"This is a really exciting time to be joining the LEP Board and play a key role in further developing our already strong performing economy, as well as overseeing significant financial resources to deliver the area’s growth ambitions.”
