Chester-based tech company Cadscan unveils global growth ambitions

Date added: 20/02/2017

Tech firm Cadscan has set its sights on growth over the coming 12 months, with plans to take on new staff, increase revenues and boost its global footprint.

The Chester-based scanning business is looking to secure CE Marking accreditation, which would tell potential buyers its products meet European health and safety standards.

Cadscan believes the accreditation will allow it to create five new jobs, boost its turnover by over 60% and gain a foothold in new European markets.

The firm is working with the Cheshire & Warrington Growth Hub to secure the CE Marking badge.

Established in 2011, Cadscan rolled out its first prototype product, a desktop scanning system called Cubik, in 2013 with the help of a campaign on crowdfunding platform Kickstarter.

Alastair Buchanan, the founder and managing director of Cadscan, said: "It’s an incredibly exciting time for our business.

"We’re looking to gain some high quality accreditation to make sure we can sell our products in what has become an increasingly competitive sector. That’s a real business priority for us – and the Growth Hub has given us a massive leg up as we try and reach new markets and achieve some pretty ambitious growth targets."

He continued: "Our quality management system needs to meet the medical devices standard, ISO 13485 to enable CE Marking of medical products. This shows that our products meet all of the essential requirements of the relevant European health, safety and environmental protection legislation.

"We needed support from a specialist ISO consultant, provided by the Growth Hub, who has given the company guidance and a framework to work to in order to try and achieve that ISO accreditation because we had very limited knowledge about doing that ourselves."

Speaking further, Alastair said the Growth Hub support has been "hugely beneficial”.

Without the accreditation, he explained, it would be "very difficult” to unlock further growth with Cadscan.

He added: "We’re working on some fantastic products at the moment so, for us right now, all I’d say is watch this space!"
