Chester
Voluntary Action is celebrating their centenary this year!
Chester Voluntary Action were established in 1914 as Chester Council of Social Welfare in response to the
Prince of Wales National Emergency Appeal following the outbreak of WW1. CVA brought together 53 local charities to administer a relief fund to provide
vital financial assistance and support to families whose main breadwinner was away in the services, maimed or
killed, and those affected by unemployment arising from the disruption of
trade.
Today
Chester Voluntary Action keeps true to its past by supporting the development
of a vibrant, thriving and sustainable local voluntary, community and faith
sector. CVA have a strong and effective voice for the sector, and have
successfully adapted to meet the diverse and changing needs of the local
community.
On
the 12th August 2014 as part of their centenary celebrations, a large commemorative event for 200 people will be held at Chester Town Hall,
hosted by Lord Mayor Councillor Bob Rudd and attended by local dignitaries,
representatives of public sector organisations and local charities. The event will not only celebrate the centenary, but it will also pay special tribute to all the volunteers and local
charities past and present who have made such a significant and enduring
contribution to the local community.
To
enable Chester Voluntary Action to deliver a successful and enjoyable centenary celebration, and
continue their vital work in supporting voluntary and community action in
Cheshire West and Chester, Chester Voluntary Action would greatly welcome corporate and private
sponsorship.
As
a sponsor of the centenary event, you will receive media attention from your
association with Chester Voluntary Action, and you will indirectly help local
voluntary and community groups to become more resilient, efficient, and
sustainable and therefore better able to provide essential frontline services
to some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in our community.
If
you are interested in becoming a sponsor, or would like to discuss this
further, please contact Joanne Walton at Chester Voluntary Action by the 9th
June 2014 on telephone number: 01244
316 587 or email: joanne.walton@chesterva.org.uk.
