Mission to Moscow is launched!

Date added: 04/11/2013

Following the resounding success of ‘Destination Rio’, the journey continues as entrepreneurial students at the University of Chester, and beyond, will be set the exacting mission of turning a tenner into a ticket to Moscow!

To be launched during Induction Week (September 22 to 27, 2013), Mission Moscow 2014 is an initiative that aims to nurture the next generation of entrepreneurs. The innovative project is being run by the University of Chester and the Riverside Innovation Centre (RIC) and is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Over the course of four months, students will be challenged to turn an initial investment of just £10 into the profits necessary to fund travel to the Global Entrepreneurship Congress in Moscow, in March 2014.

Budding entrepreneurs from across the University, and beyond, will be invited to accept the challenge, designed to foster their entrepreneurial spirit and equip them with valuable business and employment skills for the future, with the support and mentoring of the RIC, the student-led ‘Chester Endeavour’ society, and the local business community.

The first official Mission Moscow event will start during Global Entrepreneurship Week (18 – 24 November 2013) where teams will have just 48 hours to test their enterprising ideas in and around Chester, using only their £10 note.

The forerunner to Mission Moscow, Destination Rio 2013, saw four teams travel to Rio de Janeiro, receiving global recognition as a ‘High Impact’ event and a Badge of Honour from the GEW Team. Additionally, the initiative was shortlisted for ‘Enterprise Event of the Year’ by the National Association of College and University Entrepreneurs and has contributed to the University being shortlisted as Entrepreneurial University of the Year in the Times Higher Education Awards 2013.

The RIC is working alongside the business community and with a number of partners. Kirsty Badrock, Innovation and Enterprise Co-ordinator at the RIC, said: "Mission Moscow will provide students with a unique opportunity to enhance their enterprise skills as part of a creative, innovative and exciting challenge. Equally, the ultimate aim - the opportunity to attend the GEC2014 in Moscow - will allow students to network with entrepreneurs, investors, researchers and policymakers from across the globe, whilst having real-world experience of business and social culture in Russia.”
