Open4Business Trans-Pennine

Date added: 18/08/2014

SSE currently spend £200 million per year in the North of England and Open4Business has been introduced to highlight SSE’s commitment to promote local procurement and source goods, works and services from small to medium enterprise organisations in the areas in which it operates.  The aim of the portal is to create a FREE platform for SSE, and its key contractors, to post contract opportunities and increase visibility of its procurement process.  Local businesses will be able to view and bid for opportunities in one simple process and even register to receive alerts if suitable contracts are posted.

Open4Business Trans-Pennine was inspired following the success of the Highland portal that has now been running for 2 years in the North of Scotland. Along the M62 corridor, SSE have a significant Generation foot print through a variety of assets including Fiddler's Ferry Power Station, Ferrybridge Power Station, Keadby Wind Farm and our most recent asset which is still under construction, is the Ferrybridge Multifuel 1 (FM1) project. Although engagement is still at an early stage, over 440 organisations have registered on the portal and more than £3.5 million of contracts have been awarded.  This has been made possible with the help of local authorities such as St Helens, Warrington & Co, Wakefield Council, BDR (Barnsley, Doncaster & Rotherham) and RiDO (Rotherham). The portal is also being implemented by our alliance partners on site and Ferrybridge and Fiddlers Ferry Power Stations, namely Hertel, Costain, PJD, Shanks and Cape.

SSE want to maximise local benefits in the areas we operate in and Open4Business is the key to success in doing this, the growth in value and volume of works being posted and awarded on the portal is very positive and we are working hard to ensure this continues and increases.

For SSE, Open4Business has become a fundamental part of our internal Procurement process as it allows us to advertise opportunities to a local audience, and continue to use our existing tendering platform, Achilles UVDB. Any potential supplier interested in working directly for SSE must be registered with Achilles so please follow the link for further information - www.sse.com/potentialsuppliers
