Cheshire West and Chester Council has joined forces with 11 councils from across the UK to create a Collective Energy Scheme known as ‘Ready to Switch?’
The scheme enables residents and local businesses to combine their purchasing power and bulk-buy their energy as a group, helping them to negotiate with providers for cheaper energy bills.
What are the benefits?
The scheme is free to use, without obligation and makes it easy to switch energy provider. In previous rounds residents have realised savings of up to £200 a year.
How does it work?
The collective switching scheme works by means of a reverse auction whereby energy suppliers are invited to bid their lowest tariffs to supply energy to all those signed up for the scheme.
Following the auction individual offers are sent out to those participating who can then decide whether they want to switch to the new deal. There is no obligation to accept the offer. If you do wish to take up the offer, the whole process is taken care of on your behalf.
How do I register?
Using the link at the bottom of this page you will need to provide your contact details, the name of your supplier and details of your current energy usage and tariff, so have a copy of your latest fuel bill available.
Residents can register up to 5 households on the same E-mail address so why not register family and friends without internet access?
Key Dates
We are currently in Round 7 of the scheme which opened on Tuesday 5 August 2014 and is due to close at midnight on Monday 13 October 2014. The next auction will take place on Tuesday 14 October 2014. Shortly after this time those registered can expect to receive their personal offer.
