Winsford manufacturer Contour Showers have designed a unique rotating level access shower tray specifically designed to assist people with limited mobility retain their independence in their own home.
Unlike any other easy access shower tray available, the Tern has a rotating base which is electronically operated by a waterproof, push button remote control.
A person seated safely and comfortably in the shower can rotate themselves in either a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction using the remote control.
Not only does the Tern tray eliminate the risk of someone falling or slipping whilst trying to climb into a bath or a step-in shower, by making use of the shower tray’s rotating action, stretching to reach the shower controls or toiletries will no longer be an issue for people with restricted mobility.
Central to the development of the Tern tray was Winsford resident Sarah Johnson who has multiple sclerosis.
Using a bath had become physically and mentally challenging for Sarah; she didn’t want to be reliant on carer assistance but the thought of not being able to use the bath safely was difficult to contemplate as it represented a significant part of her independence.
This was also a cause for concern for her friends and family who were mindful of the fact that she lives alone.
Sarah said: "The Tern has been a revelation.
"I now shower in confidence and complete safety. I have retained my independence within my own home and I feel completely safe when showering, which now takes a fraction of the time it used to!”
Contour Showers are one of the UK’s largest easy access shower solution specialists and have been based in Winsford for more than 55 years since they were established in 1959, with the majority of their employees having been with the company for more than 25 years.
